Mechnano’s Formula1µ ESD Resin for 3D Printing Now Qualified for BMF Printers

We are thrilled to announce that after testing and qualification, Mechnano’s Formula1µ ESD resin is now approved for use with BMF’s 200 and 300 series micro-precision 3D printers. Formula1µ, tuned specifically for BMF printers, is poised to revolutionize the world of static dissipative part fabrication, particularly in environments with temperatures up to 90°C and below. It also brings speed and affordability to the creation of electrostatic dissipative (ESD) parts, opening doors for researchers and manufacturers to craft prototypes, manufacturing aids, and end-use parts with ESD properties.

Introducing Mechnano’s Formula1µ ESD Resin

Mechnano’s Formula1µ is a cutting-edge, black, rigid, static-dissipative photopolymer resin. What sets it apart is its unique formulation, utilizing Mechnano’s proprietary discrete Carbon Nanotube technology, known as D’Func. This technology enables the production of high-resolution, Nano-Uniform ESD parts with isotropic properties, all while eliminating concerns of carbon sloughing.

Before the advent of Formula1µ, the additive manufacturing (AM) landscape lacked viable solutions for the fabrication of highly detailed ESD-safe components. Formula1µ has transformed the game, offering a swift and cost-effective alternative to the traditionally time-consuming and expensive machining of ESD-safe parts.

Applications of ESD Resin in Additive Manufacturing

The significance of electrostatic discharge (ESD) within additive manufacturing cannot be overstated. Applications abound, with ESD-resin-equipped 3D printers being ideal for crafting electronic connectors, housings, PCB carriers, and more.

Bryce Keeler, President of Mechnano, expressed his excitement, stating, “Our team is thrilled to announce this qualification. Formula1µ provides BMF customers with a high-performance resin, delivering the highest tensile strength option available on the BMF platform and the only resin that dissipates static electricity. With the dual increase of electronics usage and decrease in chip size, the applications requiring micro-ESD parts are growing daily.”

A Collaborative Industry Effort

John Kawola, CEO of BMF, emphasized the collaborative nature of this achievement, saying, “We’re continuing to collaborate across the industry to expand the use of 3D printing from discrete, prototyping applications into a solution that drives highly precise production of parts across industries, including electronics, medical devices, and the life sciences. Thanks to Mechnano’s innovation, we’re now able to offer our customers another material option to support their prototyping and longer-term production needs.”
