Kawola Brings More Than Two Decades of Leadership Experience Helping Businesses Grow in 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing Markets

Boston Micro Fabrication (BMF), the pioneer in micro-precision 3D printing systems, today announced the recent appointment of John Kawola as Chief Executive Officer-Global Operations.  Kawola brings more than two decades of business leadership experience across the across the additive manufacturing, 3D printing and materials science industries. At BMF, John will apply his breadth of experience toward scaling the global business by driving sales and marketing initiatives, while helping the company penetrate new markets and launch new products.  Xiaoning He, co-founder and current CEO, will continue to lead efforts for BMF in Asia.

John has an incredibly impressive track record within the 3D printing and additive manufacturing community,” said Nick Fang, MIT Professor of Mechanical Engineering and co-founder of BMF. “He brings the deep industry, technology and business expertise that will lead BMF into its next phase of growth. We’re breaking the mold with our forthcoming product that will make it practical for manufacturers to use 3D printing for prototyping and mass production with nanoscale parts. I couldn’t be more excited and proud to have John at the helm as we expand our operations globally.”

Prior to BMF, Kawola served as the President of Ultimaker North America, the leading open-source desktop 3D printer company. While at Ultimaker, John helped establish and grow the company’s North American footprint by expanding strategic channel partnerships, creating widespread brand awareness and ultimately driving revenue and product sales. Prior to Ultimaker, John was the CEO of Harvest Automation. Harvest developed and deployed an autonomous mobile robotic platform that assists workers with difficult, repetitive material handling. Target markets include agriculture and warehouse e-commerce distribution. Prior to Harvest, John served as CEO of 3D printing pioneer Z Corporation. Z Corporation led the way in introducing fast, easy to use and full color 3D printing into a wide range of industries.   John and his team built a global distribution network and helped to create a market, where engineers and designers were making prototyping a regular part of their design process. Z Corporation was acquired by 3D Systems in 2012. Prior to Z Corporation, John held a range of technical roles at Albany International and General Electric.

“Precise, small parts are the next big thing in additive manufacturing and BMF is primed to lead the market with its proprietary technology PμSL (Projection Micro-Stereolithography) that leverages light to print incredibly precise, microscopic parts,” added Kawola. “Xiaoning, Nick and the team at BMF thought differently about traditional 3D printing practices and the result will have a standing impact on the industry that will help manufacturers bring products to market faster while cutting costs. I’m honored to be a part of the team and I’m excited about what we’ll accomplish together at BMF.”
